The Valkyrie action was launched in early 2011, after undergoing rigorous testing in various prototypes and cartridges for several years previously. It is now in full production in various configurations as follows
Right hand short action repeater.
Left hand short action repeater.
Right hand single shot short action.
Left hand single shot short action.
Right hand long action repeater.
Left hand long action repeater.
Right hand long action single shot.
Left hand long action single shot.
.223 , .308 , Magnum, and lapua magnum bolt faces available. The .338 lapua magnum version is a slightly larger diameter action, but has remington long action footprint. It has a larger diameter .750 bolt and M14 style extractor. A much beefier action to cope with the biggest of cartridges.
0.003" bolt clearance on repeater models as standard.
0.002" bolt clearance on single shot actions.
Clearances are also customer speccable if different ones are required.
The action specs are as follows.
Action body is machined from 416 stainless , hardened to 38-39 Rockwell. Bolt raceway is wire EDM,d.
Bolt is made from 4140 [ EN19 ] chrome molybdenum steel and hardened to 42-43 Rockwell. This ensures no bolt/action galling.
The action comes with a pinned , oversized surface ground stainless recoil lug.
The picatinny rail is available in zero , 20 , or 30 moa Cant, and is included in the price.
Rail is held on with 4 x M4 stainless socket screws, and also sat on two stainless steel dowels connected to the action....in short, it will never move anywhere, even under the fiercest recoil, and still allow more MOA options than a fixed rail.
Shown here are the stainless dowels in situ. The rail then sits down on top of these, locking it to the action.
The bolt comes with many options. As standard i fit it with the tactical bolt handle. It is available with a teardrop style which can suit a hunting rifle better.
The bolt is a 2 lug design, and has a sako extractor and a remington style ejector.
The bolt runs a remington 700 type firing pin, but is now lightened and has the option of a smaller than standard firing pin tip and hole to help with cratering on really hot cartridges such as the 6.5 x 47 Lapua.
It is available with either straight or helical fluting as standard, and also available with diamond fluting as an optional extra.
It is also available with a multi faceted bolt shroud in stainless steel as an extra also.
The action starts from £1050 inc lug and rail.
It is entirely British made.....proudly, here in Yorkshire.
We have been busy, beavering away all winter on the new Valhalla action. Its a premium version of the standard valkyrie action, with many new features.
People told me they wanted a premium British action to compete with the very best from around the world. This is it.
It has several uprated features , starting at the back.
The bolt bore is now reamed with custom made reamers, to allow a bolt clearance of just 0.001" if required. This makes for a silky smooth bolt travel.
The ejection port now has tapered ends to allow for easier cartridge insertion by hand if required.
The picatinny rail now has no central milled out section either top or bottom. Purely aesthetic , but befitting such an action. Its is fixed in place by four M4 cap screws and sits on two stainless dowels, holding it perfectly to the action. This gives the option of changing for a different MOA if required. It is scalloped to match the ejection port perfectly.
The action has its recoil lug machined in as part of it. This gives a longer than average barrel tenon length, enabling heavy barrels to be used without worry. It also makes a switch barrel rifle , very simple indeed.
On to the bolt.
The bolt now has "camlocks". Basically this is a tiny pad, machined into the bolt body, just behind the lugs. These are essentially thicker parts of the bolt. As the bolt is pushed forward, they dont do anything as it travels down the raceway. As the bolt is turned into battery, the cams provide a 0.0005" lock up into the abbuttments.
This means a bolt with 0.003" bolt clearance can be run as a repeater etc, but still have the close tolerance lock up of a benchrest rifle.
The bolt has a sako extractor and plunger ejector.
The bolt body is helically fluted in the candy twist pattern. It is fitted with the finely faccetted bolt shroud, wich now runs a much finer internal thread. This ensures a smaller gap between the bolt body and itself on opening/closing , and also makes opening the bolt far easier.
The firing pin has a small diameter tip to suit hot cartridges such as the 6.5 x 47 far better. Offering substantially more support to the primer upon ignition.
Indeed, the action actually feels lighter on opening from FIRED than unfired. It has one of the smoothest bolt lifts i,ve ever felt, and will not disturb any rifle on the bags.
The action is available with a variety of bolt handles including the new stainless ball, and is available in righ/left hand. Right/left port , single shot or repeater , long and short action.
Remington style bolt nose or cone bolt nose available for single shot actions
Available in polished finish only, it is too tight to be painted.
The bolts are also available with a Tuftrided black finish, which increases lubricity even further.
Retail price of £1500.
